5 Bank Fishing Tips for this summer

As summer approaches we anglers look forward to being able to fish longer with less interruptions and often the species of fish we are fishing for tend to be a lil easier to catch when the water is warm. Here are a few tips when fishing this summer.

1. When fishing for bass, crappie and catfish sometimes the depth of water plays a critical role in getting more strikes. So give the more shallow water a go 1st. Not only is it often easier to get to. It also is easier to tell if there are fish present. A few casts in a shallow spot you’ll know right away if that area has your target fish present.

2. Don’t be afraid to use a bobber. Often times when bank fishing it’s kind of a pain in the tail to keep checking your lines to see if the fish have taken your bait. Use a bobber and the smallest you are able to based upon the weight of your lines. The big heavy bulky bobbers often times will not sink enough to help you detect your strikes quicker.

3. If you don’t get action with your bobber on. Adjust the height of the bobber. Often times you are just not quite where the fish are. A few times adjusting it up or down can make the difference between hours of sitting and no action or hitting the hot spot within minutes. So if you sit for more than a 10 mins or so and you don’t have a bite. Adjust your bobber recast in a spot near your last one and see how that works!

4. If you are fishing with jigs during the summer a great way to increase your strikes is to double up on the jig heads. Add a extra one with slightly less weight attach a bobber and recast. Two chances to get a strike are better than one!

5. Watch out for snakes, ticks and other pests. Cover up and spray repellant and wear tall shoes, preferably boots. Tuck your pants into your shoes/boots this will reduce the ability to get bit by ticks and if you see a snake treat all them as poisonous and stay away!
